Brynley completed his studies in music at the University of Canterbury (NZ) and the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
He was playing with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra at age 17 & appointed his first full time position as acting associate concertmaster of the Auckland Philharmonic at age 21. He has been a member of the Queensland Philharmonic & Queensland Symphony Orchestras for the past 33 years.
Brynley was also a member of the Cabaret ensemble X Collective for 10 years, where he played jazz violin.
Brynley has also been an active teacher during his whole performing career, lecturing at Teachers College Qld, the North Canterbury Academy of Music in New Zealand, and teaching in various schools as well as private lessons at home.
