Hi, I'm Cairn. I accepted an unconditional early offer to study Jazz Performance at The Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney; started 2021, and am now graduated with a Bachelor of Music Performance (Jazz) Double Bass.
I finished year 12 at Carlingford Highschool in 2020, having studied Music 2 and Music Extension courses. I was in the school's Stage Band 1 and String Ensemble where I played Electric and Double bass.
My specialty lies in Jazz Electric and Double Bass. I was part of The Arts Unit Jazz Orchestra where we were flown down to Melbourne to open International Jazz Day last year and play at many other prestigious venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Manly Jazz Festival and Town Hall.
Apart from this, I am also well versed in other genres and have experience in many other environments. This includes playing Electric Bass in Sony Recording Studios as part of the "Count Us In" music initiative and Electric Bassist of the School Spectacular Stage Band.
I am currently the resident Bass tutor of 2 local primary schools, as well as teaching at a multitude of band workshops + camps in the Sydney region.
My teaching focuses on developing strong note reading, literacy in both aural and music theory and musicianship, which are vital skills in becoming a versatile musician. I can read proficiently in notated music, tablature, and also learn by ear.
However, I strongly believe that teaching should mold to the student's interests in order to preserve their interest in music.
