Trombone tuition is available to students whose physical capabilities are sufficient to operate the instrument. Generally students would be aged approximately 10 or older.
Our specialist brass teachers provide trombone tuition in all of our teaching locations across Canberra and Jerrabomberra. One of those teachers is Julian Hunt.
Julian took up horn at the age of 11 and won numerous scholarships for his playing throughout secondary school. He began serious study under Dominic Harvey at the ANU School of Music, graduating with a BMus majoring in horn performance.
He has a breadth of performance experience, including a two year stint with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and ad hoc performances with the Melbourne Opera, the Canberra International Music Festival, in brass and wind quintets, and in solo performance. Julian has collaborated on recordings with Australian singer/songwriter Doug Owen, and has performed in dozens of world premieres including works by Peter Sculthorpe, Larry Sitsky, and Elena Kats-Chernin.
Julian has been heavily involved with Canberra Youth Music, initially as a player in Canberra Youth Orchestra, then players’ representative on the committee, and now as Vice President. Julian still plays with the orchestra and this is his final year as principal horn. He also studied musicology and philosophy extensively at university and is currently completing a philosophical thesis on the function of music.
