Catalina Dermenjian

Catalina Dermenjian is a virtuoso cellist, based in Wollongong/ Sydney, with a Masters degree in Music Studies (Performance) Majoring in Cello at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Dr. Georg Pedersen, one of Australia’s foremost Cello teachers and performers.

Catalina is a recipient of not only the Commonwealth scholarship but also the Greta Davis scholarship for musically talented students and the Alan Hyland scholarship for instrumental studies.

Having worked as a casual teacher for various music education providers and various private schools in Europe and Australia.

Catalina provides tailored lessons for each individual student to ensure they make the most of their lesson time and enjoy the learning process.

Catalina is currently a staff member and Cello teacher at PATC, Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Her teaching method is influenced by the european teaching method which thrived through the same education of her teacher who studied with the most known Cellists and Teachers internationally -
Paul Tortelier and Gregor Piatigorsky

She has been teaching in her private music studio since 2018, aged 4 and up. (Children and parents are not required to have had any prior musical training)

If required, She facilitates high-quality online lessons for remote learning.

Catalina holds a current Working with Children Check.

Her work includes participating in Sydney Con Orchestra, Sydney Con big choir, String Con Orchestra, Steel City Strings Orchestra (APRA AMCOS Award Winner), Early Music Ensemble, chamber music and other Solo works.

Catalina has worked with internationally known composers like Elena Kats-Chernin, Ann Carr-Boyd, Gerard Brophy, Marcel Khalife and many others.
