Charlie Teakle

Hi! My name is Charlie, I have been learning and playing the trumpet for 16 years.

I have a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) from WAAPA doing performance for half of my degree and composition for the end of it. I am currently studying a Master of Teaching specialising in music.

I have been involved in numerous ensembles such as; The Metro Big Band, WAYJO, and the Artemis Orchestra where I have recorded an album with them as their lead trumpet. I have also been involved in many community musical theatre orchestras/bands.

In my trumpet lessons I make sure students are playing with proper technique and that we focus on building a solid foundation of skills. I like to tailor lessons specifically to the goals of the individual player, what they are struggling with, what they would like to achieve, while also mixing in fun exercises and tunes to learn, as having fun is just as important as proper technique!

I like to make sure the student knows the importance of practice and I spend a lot of time going through different practice techniques with the students. I make sure they understand why they are practicing the things they are and how they relate to the skills they want/need to accomplish. We work together to come up with a clear and regular practice routine.

Private lessons allow more space for an individual to understand concepts more fully and/or get assistance on topics they might need explained differently or need more time working on. This leads to the student feeling more confident in their abilities in their classroom/ensemble setting.

I’m based in Doubleview but am willing to travel throughout the Perth region for lessons, I do however charge an additional $10 for more than a 40 min round trip. I also teach lessons from my home.
