Currently accepting enrolments for term 4:
Beginning in term 4, 2018, I will be relocating to Como. Enrolments are now open for weekday afternoons. Interviews are available upon request (over the phone or I can meet you in Como ahead of my move date). Trial lessons will be available in Como from the beginning of term 4 when I have moved my piano into the new house, or you can come to Girrawheen if you’d like an earlier trial lesson anytime throughout term 3.
Piano lessons are available for children (4+ years), teenagers, and adults. My students receive modern, well-rounded instruction which includes music appreciation and interpretation, technical development, music theory, aural skills, and composition. I have over ten years of experience teaching students to play, listen to, and enjoy music. Past students have passed auditions for high school music scholarships and university entrance as well as achieving excellent results in exams and eisteddfods. My focus as a teacher is always primarily on the student’s enjoyment and appreciation of music – there is no point in pursuing exams or higher level study if the student does not love what they do. As such, many of my students choose to learn purely for pleasure – exams are optional. I offer the Trinity College London syllabus as well as the AMEB syllabus for students interested in exams.
I take an individual approach to my students, tailoring my program to suit their needs and interests and to develop their enthusiasm, confidence and self-esteem. I use a repertoire rich approach, meaning that students learn dozens of pieces per year on average rather than growing bored and disinterested with a small handful of pieces for months on end. I teach reading, aural (listening), and technical skills in a practical and relevant manner, not in isolation. I have experience teaching children whose needs differ from the majority (eg. auditory processing disorder, autistic spectrum, ADHD, anxiety, depression, executive functioning disorder, dyscalculia, dyslexia).
I am also available as an accompanist for woodwind, string, and brass players doing performances or exams.
