Chris Mathur

Hi my name is Chris and I'd love to be your new horn teacher, tutor and mentor!! I'm originally from Sydney but have recently moved to Canberra for my studies at the ANU - wherein I am studying a double degree in Law/PPE.

I have played the horn for over 10 years in various different capacities and ensembles. I've been fortunate enough to play high and low horn for the Australian Youth Orchestra in the Young Symphonists program 2023, and to play within various different high-level chamber and orchestral ensembles throughout Sydney and Canberra.

My teaching philosophy stems from my desire to instil passion for the horn for students. I was very fortunate to have inspiring teachers who made my musical education enjoyable and rewarding. I thus value recreating this for my students.

Why pick me to be your horn teacher?
I am qualified to teach as I've achieved my Associate in Music from the AMEB (AMusA) in 2023, alongside my pass with Honours in the Comprehensive AMEB Grade 8 in 2022. I have also studied horn with some of Sydney and Australia's finest players.
Further, I very much enjoy working with children and have a great amount of patience, as I strive to make a comfortable and positive learning environment which not only aims to inspire the student at hand, but dually to inspire me personally in my own musical journey. I aim to be a relatable teacher for students of all levels and ages.

I can guide those who are looking to prepare for AMEB/Trinity exams, scholarship preparation or just for pure fun and leisure.

Alongside teaching and playing music I love to play competitive sports: tennis and football, aswell as going swimming and jogging.

I am also offering online lessons.
