Christopher Busietta

Melbourne born Christopher Busietta was born in Melbourne, Australia and studied at the Melba Conservatorium of Music. His last position was as principal lyric tenor in the opera ensemble at Stadttheater Bremerhaven until August 2020.

He began his professional work in Australia in 2004 as a soloist in concert and oratorio with local choirs and orchestras in Melbourne, and as a professional chorister with Opera Australia and Victorian Opera. He then went on to become a principal tenor with Opera Australia's (OzOpera) primary schools company, touring Rossini's Barber of Seville and Cinderella as well as singing leading roles for Lyric Opera of Melbourne and iOpera.

After winning the 2009 German Australian Opera Grant, he relocated to Germany, singing roles with Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden (ensemble member in 2009/10), Theater Augsburg (ensemble member from 2010-2017), Stadttheater Bremerhaven (ensemble member from 2018) as well as performing as a guest artist with Theater Aachen, Landestheater Niederbayern, Theater Magdeburg, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (Munich) and Oper Frankfurt.

Amongst the many operatic roles in his repertoire are Nemorino (L'elisir d'amore), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Don Ottavio, (Don Giovanni), Alfred (Die Fledermaus), Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Belfiore (La Finta Giardiniera), Witch (Hänsel und Gretel), Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro) and der Steuermann (Der Fliegender Holländer).

In the 2019/2020 season with Stadttheater Bremerhaven he played Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Jan Janicki (Der Bettelstudent), Albert de Morcerf (The Count of Monte Christo), Steve Hubbell / Young Collector (A Streetcar named Desire) & studied Schmidt (Werther [production cancelled due to Corona Virus]).

In 2017, he won the Augsburger Theaterpreis (Theatre Prize) for Opera.

Amongst other music theater roles, he has also performed as Marius in Les Misérables, Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Freddy in My Fair Lady, Woof in Hair and Curt in Blues Brothers - the latter two shows broke Theater Augsburg's box-office records at the open-air theatre (Freilichtbühne).

He graduated from the Melba Memorial Conservatorium of Music in 2006. He also holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Monash University (Clayton).

He also writes original folk, rock and classical music and performs his pieces under the name, Blue Macaw.
