Commencing my career as a ballet dancer, and subsequently gaining extensive performance experience across both opera and musical theatre (London's West End, Opera North, Scottish Opera), my teaching approach has a unique perspective and is heavily influenced by the mind/body connection. I have a multidisciplinary approach, inspired by (but not limited to) somatic release techniques from contemporary dance, mindfulness, Accent Method, Estill, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Janice Chapman’s ‘Singing and Teaching Singing’, Jenevora William’s ‘Teaching Singing to Children and Young Adults’ and Mary Saunders Barton’s ‘Cross-Training in the Voice Studio’.
I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David/The Voice Study Centre where I researched the difference in breathing techniques used for classical ballet and classical voice, muscle tension dysphonia and belting for musical theatre. I enjoy working with dancers, young aspiring singers in musical theatre and opera, with a particular interest in encouraging awareness of vocal health for sustainable and consistent vocal technique. In addition to encouraging a healthy vocal technique, I emphasise the importance of other aspects of singing such as acting through song, musicality, and the implementation of a growth mindset. I am a qualified Mat Pilates teacher with BarreBody Australia, and aim to utilise the Pilates Method to help singers with physical strength and breath support.
Most recently I was the singing teacher at the Be Training Programme (Northfleet School for Girls), a performing arts programme for Key Stage 5 students preparing for musical theatre college auditions. I also teach private one-to- one singing lessons at The Vocal Coaches, and my own studio ‘Sing with Corinne’, where my students have successfully auditioned for music conservatoire, performed at The Royal Opera House (‘Knabe’ in The Magic Flute), accepted into professional choirs and passed ABRSM and Rock School exams. I was the guest singing teacher at the Jersey Academy of Music Summer Course 2023, as well as the singing teacher at St Anthony’s School for Girls and Richmond Music Trust (Sheen Mount Primary and Vineyard School).
In addition, my experience working as a movement director (West Green House Opera, GSMD) has given me the confidence to work with singers from various backgrounds and life experiences, adjusting my approach according to each students’ needs.
