BMus (Performance), AMusA
I have obtained my Bachelor of Music (Performance) from the Queensland Conservatorium. During my degree I undertook a variety of courses in music research and other areas to improve my teaching, performance, and aural skills.
My principal instruments are the Flute and Piccolo, however I have also achieved Music Theory Grade 7 (now replaced by AMEB with a Diploma of Music Theory), and Piano. I have been teaching for a number of years, which has resulted in teaching music to become a passion of mine. I try my best to work in with my students schedules where possible, as I know how hectic life can be.
My experience in the music industry includes being the previous convenor for the Brisbane Woodwind and Brass Eisteddfod and Treasurer for the Queensland Philharmonia Orchestra. Over the years, I have also had lessons with a variety of well renowned performers, such as Dr Karen Lonsdale, Gerhard Mallon, Michael Hallit, Patrick Nolan, Kate Lawson, and Alexis Kenny.
I have traveled to China for the world expo in Shanghai and played in the Shanghai Conservatorium of Music (broadcasted live on television). My orchestral experience also includes various Queensland Youth Orchestra ensembles on flute and piccolo, Queensland Conservatorium Opera Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra on Principal Flute and Principal Piccolo and The Queensland Philharmonia Orchestra on flute and piccolo. My experience also includes various musical pit orchestras such as ‘Beauty and the Beast”, “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum”, “Pirates of Penzance”, “Olivia”, and some ballet’s.
Due to my extensive experience in the music education sector (first hand and via student preparation), I am also knowledgeable in various youth music programs. Some of these include SHEP (The Queensland Conservatorium’s State Honours Program), MOST (Musically Outstanding Students Program), Creative Generations State Schools on Stage, the Young Conservatorium Ensemble Program and the McGregor Summerschool Music Camp (Toowoomba) etc.
Furthermore, I have also gained experience with recordings, eisteddfods, auditions, and volunteer work. I have also attended musical development programs such as summer school work shops, AMEB syllabus training, camps, and master classes with renowned performers such as Trevor Wye.
Flute lessons are $60/hr. Piano and Music theory lessons are $50/hr. Depending on the circumstances and area, I am happy to travel to neighbouring suburbs to teach at your home.
