Skill Level Beginner to Intermediate

In my work as a music teacher, I emphasise developing musicianship through integrating theoretical knowledge and aural skills with instrumental tuition. I aim at all levels of instrumental tuition to instil long lasting, safe and efficient technical skills. In addition to one-on-one lessons, I also enjoy working with groups, providing a focused environment to develop musical skills in a way which contributes not only to individual progress, but also to one’s ability to communicate musical ideas to other musicians effectively.

I’m currently expanding my teaching practice to working with bands as follows:

  1. Assisting in developing members’ capacity to properly communicate and coordinate in the shared creation of music.
  2. Targeting individual competencies to expand upon and weaknesses to improve upon.
  3. Understanding how to best utilise musical equipment in a jam context and live show context.
  4. Working on understanding the logistical aspects of band management in order to maximise on opportunities for growth in the live music scene.

Since modern musicians now have far greater access to studio quality equipment and software, I am also interested in teaching DAW (digital audio workstation) skills. Musicians today have more opportunity to expand their craft through engaging with music technology than ever before, and doing so will increasingly become expected of those who wish to continuously refine their craft across a musical career.

About me:

Having been surrounded by music since my childhood, I have had the fortunate opportunity to develop a broad musical skillset spanning multiple instruments (classical guitar, electric guitar, piano, drums) as well as developing my ability to compose in formal university contexts and informal band contexts. As a child, my mother, Christine Faron - an international concert pianist and experienced specialist piano teacher - taught me piano. My late father, Julian Clark, was a world authority in the field of historic violin bows, both as a researcher and maker of bows for major orchestras throughout Europe.

I have learnt classical guitar, electric guitar and drums under the guidance of several highly skilled teachers, including Bradley Kunda (former member of Guitar Trek), Wes Hauch (touring guitarist for Thy Art is Murder, Black Crown Initiate, Devin Townsend, and founding member of Alluvial) and Lieutenant Colonel Craig Johnson (former Army Band drummer and Music Director of Army Bands, including the Royal Military College Band in Canberra).
I have spent years playing in bands, writing music, jamming with friends and playing shows. I began a Bachelor of Music at the Australian National University, completing part of a major in composition, but discontinued my degree in order to pursue the opportunity to play guitar on tour with popular death metal/hardcore band Honest Crooks. I continuously work on writing for my own band, Post Human, fusing technical metal guitar, bass and drum work with sound design and modern composition techniques using digital audio workstations such as Logic and Pro Tools. I am currently completing a diploma of music at CIT, with an aim to complete both the Music Production stream and Musical Performance stream.

I started teaching beginner piano under the guidance of Christine Faron in 2017, and have accumulated a dedicated student basis. I also teach guitar, offering tuition at a general beginner to intermediate level. I enjoy writing and recording my own music at my home studio and working toward further expanding my compositional and educational craft through additional private tuition with select international specialist performers.
