  • Bachelor of Music in Performance (viola)
  • Australian National Academy of Music

Brisbane-born and educated, Daniel You is passionate about exploring new directions in musical expression. He recently completed his Bachelor of Music in Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, guided by Elizabeth Morgan AM and the broader faculty of the Conservatorium, including Michele Walsh, György Deri, Paul Dean, and Peter Luff. Daniel is currently studying at the Australian National Academy of Music, under Caroline Henbest.

As a soloist, a proud highlight for Daniel was performing the Bruch Double Concerto alongside dear friend and colleague Simon Redshaw and the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Johannes Fritszch in 2021. Orchestrally, Daniel was Principal Viola in the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra (2017-19), touring China and Germany in 2017. He was also appointed Principal Viola of the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra on multiple occasions.

Daniel is an avid chamber musician, enjoying collaborations with artists and experimenting with other instruments. Numerous enriching experiences in 2021 include performing Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet alongside EnsembleQ for rural Queenslanders at Jimbour, and being awarded the 4MBS Chamber Music Prize with Kodaly’s Serenade for Two Violins and Viola. He frequently performed in a trio alongside Simon Redshaw and Reuben Johnson, presenting music ranging from Beethoven’s Piano Trio no. 1 (arranged for clarinet, viola and piano), the “fast, [and] vigorous” Night Window by Brett Dean, and a premiere of a newly commissioned work by Australian composer, Frankie Dyson Reilly.
