B/Arts (Music) (UNSW)
Hi. My name is Dave Stephenson. I am a brass player with 25 years’ experience as a professional musician. I have a B/Arts in Music (UNSW) and I have been teaching brass in the Northern Rivers region for three years.
I have performed at major festivals and venues all over Australia with Sydney band “Waiting for Guinness”. Several of my compositions for this band have received airplay on both radio and television.
Have a listen here for examples of my brass playing with Waiting for Guinness:
Here is an example of my work as a composer:
My strength as a tutor stems from my belief that most students find their musicianship in playing easy music well, and from the knowledge that there is no shortage of beautiful music from all corners of the globe that is easy to play. Twice a year, students gain detailed insight into their progress as musicians through the detailed written feedback that accompanies their half yearly and end of year recordings.
Music of the student’s choice is arranged so that it is easy to play and interesting to listen to.
I am also a competent accompanist on piano, accordion and guitar.
Improvisation, composition and piano skills can also form part of the programme, to enable each student the opportunity to develop her or his broader musical ability.
My current students range in age from 10 to 27 years. Students of all ages and abilities are welcome.
