I am dedicated, passionate, and enthusiastic guitar teacher with years of experience behind me. Until recently I taught at Caroline Springs School of Music for almost a year. I have taught students from the ages of 3 up to 65.In addition to this. I am able to follow instruction and work independently, as well as in a collaborative environment.
I possess 15 years of experience on the guitar, and I am well versed in many styles, with a specialty in jazz and improvisation. I was a member of the UGD Jazz Academy big band for 3 years as well as many smaller ensembles, and am capable of directing small groups. I have taught from the AMEB,CPM, ANZCA Modern and Classical and Rock syllabi. My students have all achieved outstanding grades whilst also learning a great deal of free choice repertoire. My student retention rate is very high, I always manage to engender a great love of music in all of my pupils.
The mentoring I provide emphasizes music literacy, correct technique, and ear training, whilst engaging the student in a manner relative to their tastes, requirements and desired outcomes from guitar tuition. I endeavor to give practical and useful examples to demystify and confusion a student may have regarding a certain area of playing or theory. Aside from the practicalities of teaching music, I pride myself on being able to maintain a good rapport with students, parents, and fellow staff members. I am always conscious of working well as a team, I conduct myself in a most professional manner at all times
I have been awarded with a Bachelor degree in Musical Arts in Jazz Performance, completing 4 academic years at the Jazz Academy.
As well as this I share my wealth of experience in the music industry and can offer guidance on many of the areas the aspiring musician may have questions about, as well as being able to guide students towards auditioning for tertiary music education courses or completing exams.
Music is the most important and rewarding part of my life, and I am confident in my abilty to engage the student in the way that is right for them , and hope they get the same sense of fulfilment that I do from my ongoing study of music.
I am respectful, reliable and punctual, with good interpersonal skills, and am able to develop healthy and long lasting mentoring relationships with my students, whilst giving them or their parent’s documented and useful feedback on their musical development.
It is my belief that I could offer a great deal of value, as well as furthering my own teaching experience, whilst nurturing the development and talent of those I tutor.
