Composition Lessons

I have a PhD in Composition and Theory from Princeton. I teach students from beginners to advanced level. My goal is to encourage creativity at all levels. In particular, a priority is to help each student find his or her own voice. Lessons are conducted with three principal goals in mind: to provide instruction in all technical areas of the craft of composition; to awaken the student's ears to new worlds of sound; and to offer constructive criticism of the student's creative work.

Amelia Guan
Studied privately with me in 2017-19.
In September 2020 Amelia started full-time studies with scholarship for an undergraduate degree in Composition at New England Conservatory, which ranks #7 in the top 10 music schools in the USA (source: niche.com).

Zac Crawford
Following private lessons with me in 2017, Zac was admitted to full-time degree course in Composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Daniel Blinkhorn
Studied for a Bachelor’s degree and for a Master’s degree in Composition under my direction at the Australian Institute of Music. Daniel is an award winning composer with international recognition who teaches at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
