MORE INFO:
Dylan Henderson enjoys a multi-faceted career as a pianist, teacher, writer, musicologist and arts administrator. He recently completed his performance-based PhD at the Elder Conservatorium of Music at the University of Adelaide (graduating in September 2023), having previously received a first-class honours degree in classical piano performance. Since 2016 he has studied with Professor Anna Goldsworthy and the esteemed Russian pedagogue Eleonora Sivan, and is currently working as a research assistant on Goldsworthy and Sivan's new book 'Heart to Heart' – a companion to the acclaimed memoir 'Piano Lessons'.
Dylan's practice-led research investigates the impact of period instruments on the music of Fryderyk Chopin. During his PhD candidature, Dylan was the winner of the 2020 Chopin Study Competition for Young Researchers (presented by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, in association with the School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Pennsylvannia) and the Naomi Cumming Prize for Postgraduate Research (presented by the South Australian Chapter of the Musicological Society of Australia); gave a two-hour all-Chopin recital by candlelight at UKARIA Cultural Centre; performed Chopin's Concerto in F minor, Op. 21 with the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra; received a Dean's Commendation for Doctoral Research Thesis Excellence; and was nominated for the University of Adelaide Research Medal. In October 2023 Dylan returned to Warsaw to attend the Second International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments, and to present at the musicological conference 'Romanticism in Music: Poland in its European Context'.
Dylan has written concert reviews and interview features for Limelight and CutCommon, and his annotations have appeared in concert programs presented by Musica Viva, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, City Recital Hall Angel Place (Sydney), the Coriole Music Festival, and Recitals Australia. He has been the Communications Manager of UKARIA since 2016, and also works at the Elder Conservatorium of Music. He will be an adjudicator in the piano division of the 2024 Adelaide Eisteddfod.
