This course examines the essentials of music composition in the context of drama. It is intended for those interested in the process and the aesthetic appreciation of what we refer to as 'musical dramaturgy'. This is an essential course for composers intending to work in film, theatre, opera & dance. It is also a highly useful course for other film and theatre creatives. Musical knowledge or proficiency is not essential to start.
The course will offer a broad historical perspective of the use and function of music, examine the broad range of styles and genres as well as aid in the development of the participants' ability to analyse and express music dramaturgical concepts.
