Harp Lessons

Emily has just recently moved to Brisbane to take up her new role as Principal Harp in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Australian-American harpist Emily Granger has firmly established herself in the Australian concert scene, with a busy schedule as soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician. Emily has performed recitals at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre and UKARIA. Emily has appeared as Guest Principal Harpist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, and Opera Australia Orchestra.

Emily grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where she began playing the harp at age 11. She participated in the Youth Symphony of Kansas City and spent many summers at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. She earned her Bachelor of Music from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with famed pedagogue Susann McDonald and her Master of Music from the Chicago College of the Performing Arts studying with Principal Harp of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sarah Bullen. Granger later served as the Principal Harp of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, and National Orchestral Institute.

As an educator, Emily has served on the faculty at VanderCook College of Music, British School of Chicago, and Chicago Harp Ensemble. She has taught at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and presented masterclasses and educational residencies at Indiana University, New York University, Play on Philly!, Vanderbilt University, University of Minnesota, Queensland Harp Society, and American Harp Society National Conference

Emily's students have won competitions worldwide, including prizes at the Mexican International Harp Competition and American Harp Society Chicago Chapter Competition, and have won auditions into the Australian Youth Orchestra, Queensland Youth Orchestra, Sydney Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago Youth Symphony.
