Emily Hinwood

  • Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium (ongoing)

Emily started learning the flute at age 10, followed by bassoon two years later and piccolo at age 15. She attended St Catherine's School, Sydney on a full music scholarship. Emily continued to play all three instruments throughout high school and attained top bands in both Music 2 and Music Extension in the HSC.

Emily auditioned successfully for both flute and bassoon to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney. She made the decision to pursue the bassoon but continues to play the flute in her spare time.

In 2023, Emily was a recipient of The Orchestra – Witheford Don Scholarship. She is currently in her second year studying a Bachelor of Music Performance under the tutelage of Andrew Barnes.

Emily has many years of experience with orchestras and concert bands during her youth. She has worked as a mentor to young students within junior ensembles. This year during her semester break, she was involved in a mentoring program at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium, playing and assisting the Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra.

Emily works with Sydney Youth Orchestra as an online facilitator overlooking AMEB musicianship theory classes.
