Francesca Mountfort is a Melbourne based cellist, teacher and composer. Originally from Wellington NZ, she studied cello with Rolf Gjelsten from the New Zealand String Quartet and with David Chickering, principle cellist of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
Francesca graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 2002, and has since been performing with a wide variety of acts spanning genres such as gypsy, solo cello with electronics, contemporary chamber music, indie, rock, folk and many other collaborations.
Francesca is an experienced and devoted teacher. She taught cello and tutored string ensembles at Candlebark School (2009-11), Woodend Primary School (2008-12), Riddells Creek Primary (2006-9). She also taught cello for the Rudolf Stiener stream at Collingwood College from 2006-2008, and at Thornbury Primary (2011-12).
In 2012 Francesca worked with music students at the English College of Prague writing and directing the music for theatrical performances.
Francesca’s main teaching practice is from home in Northcote.
She is experienced with all ages and is open to teaching different styles of playing.
Francesca holds student concerts with an accompanist twice a year as well as providing many other performance and examination opportunities.
