GEORGINA POWELL, Vocal Coach and Professional Opera Singer - Biography.

Wiradjuri woman and soprano, Georgina Hall, is widely recognised as a voice of international quality and a spectacular performer born for the stage.

In 2017 and 2019, Georgina was supported by Melba Opera Trust’s Harold Blair Opera Scholarship, the Mel and Nina Waters Award and the Ruskin Opera Scholarship. In the winter of 2018, Georgina was delighted to make her Opera Australia main stage debut in Verdi’s Aida at the Sydney Opera House. During this time, she announced as a finalist two years running in the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonygne Foundation’s International Sydney Song Prize.

In early 2018, Georgina toured to Amsterdam singing in Indigenous Kaurna language for the international debut of the Australian Dance Theatre’s production The Beginning of Nature. In November 2018, she joined the Australian Dance Theatre again for an 8 week tour of Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium where The Beginning of Nature thrilled audiences and critics alike. In 2017, Georgina produced and directed Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, performing as Laetitia at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. Later that year, she was awarded the Doris Smith Scholarship for Voice by the University of Newcastle. For Opera Hunter, Georgina has performed as The Countess in CONDA nominated La Nozze di Figaro, Phoebe in Yeomen of the Guard and the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors and held various leading roles in CONDA nominated Love, Life and Opera.

A 2015 and 2016 Pacific Opera Young Artist, she performed the Forester’s Wife and covered the role of the Fox in Pacific Opera and Sydney Symphony Youth Orchestra’s production of The Cunning Little Vixen by Leoš Janáček. During COVID in 2019, Georgina was to resume her position with the Australian Dance Theatre’s production The Beginning of Nature for a 5 week tour of Italy, Switzerland and Germany. Later, she was to join Short Black Opera in the cast of Pecan Summer by Yorta Yorta woman, Deborah Cheetham. She was also set to perform the title role of Parrwang in Parrwang Lifts the Sky, by Deborah Cheetham produced by Short Black Opera and Victorian Opera. Later, Georgina was to reprise her role of Mother in Opera Hunter’s production of Amahl and the Night Visitors.

Currently, Georgina is working as a principal singer for a project out of the University of New England in relation to the development of the Interactive play “Trucked Off” set to poetry by Wangkumara woman Lorina Barker and with music composed by UNE’s Paul Smith.
