Music Theory Lessons:
I love teaching music theory to my students - understanding chords, scales and their relationship to one another. Using this information to improvise and compose, and communicate effectively in a band. It's a great feeling being able to analyse music to understand how to recreate some of your favourite sounds and styles!
My theory is best applied on piano, but I also play guitar, so I can assist with guitar and bass as well.
Theory is a term that can also cover music literacy: reading music. If you're interested in learning to read music, I understand how frustratingly confusing it can be without guidance. I'm happy to break down the core logic of how to effectively read music and practice it at home.

Hey, I'm Hayden! I'm a friendly and patient piano/keyboard teacher with years of experience in the Canberra music industry. Teaching is a passion I've had since primary school.

I teach privately from home on my professional-grade digital keyboard (Kurzweil PC4) with weighted touch and high quality sounds.

I create a lot of teaching resources for my students which I provide throughout lessons. These include colourful, high quality diagrams of all major, minor, melodic minor, harmonic minor and pentatonic scales, and various types of chords.

I also create notated charts for many songs that I like to give to students to learn particular styles or concepts.
I'm happy to look at whatever songs someone wants to look at.

My theory knowledge is primarily based in Jazz & Contemporary music. Classical theory can be similar at times, but uses different approaches - all of which apply primarily to classical music - whereas jazz theory tends to apply to everything else and is used frequently in band communication.
