Bio:
Kay Fung, a Hong Kong born violinist, started learning about the wonders of the violin at the age of 6. Having completed her Licentiate on violin (Trinity College London) in 2012, she has participated in various ensembles and competitions prior to her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, studying under Dr Nicole Hammill. A recipient of the 2017 Griffith Award for Academic Excellence, she strives for excellence in both academically and in her violin performance.
During her studies, she has the opportunity to perform with the Queensland Conservatorium Orchestra in not only orchestral concerts but other genres such as opera Aida on the Beach on the Gold Coast and contemporary music at the opening for the Ashes series at the gabba. She was a member of the Queensland Youth Symphony in 2017 and had several concerts at QPAC concert hall under conductor John Curro.
She has a growing interest in all genres of music, and has performed with contemporary folk and blues singer Chontia Robinson in a 12-piece ensemble at The J Theatre Noosa. She is also an amateur pianist and organist and had a chance to perform a short organ piece at St Peter’s Anglican church on the Gold Coast.
