Jacob Enoka is a passionate educator having started teaching privately at the Just Percussion Music School for over 2 years now. Through Jacob’s professional engagements with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, he has worked with students in the orchestra’s education programs as well as working as a percussion tutor for Queensland Youth Orchestra, Gladstone Youth Music Camp, Australian Doctors Orchestra and the Greater Public Schools Music Showcase. Jacob has had a successful start to his orchestral and solo percussion career. Learning from a number of Australia’s finest percussionists including Tom O’Kelly, Francois Combermorel and Vanessa Tomlinson. Jacob has been able to gain knowledge in section and principal roles through Conservatorium Ensembles, Queensland Youth Orchestras and the Australian Youth Orchestra. His freelance engagements are plentiful having worked with the Camerata of St Johns, Australian Philharmonia, and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra on several occasions. As well as his love for orchestral music, Jacob also enjoys working in a chamber environment. In 2016 Jacob was selected to be apart of the All Star Percussion Ensemble at the Australian Percussion Gathering where they performed Xenakis’ masterwork Peaux from Pleiades. At AYO’s National Music Camp this year, Jacob was given the opportunity to play with two of Australia’s principal orchestral players Gary Wain, and Alex Timcke in the work Hydra by Gerard Brophy. Now having completed his studies, Jacob will continue to serve as a freelance percussionist and educator in Queensland.
