Melbourne singer-songwriter Jacqueline Gawler is a modern musician drawing deeply from the world around her. Her original songs are sophisticated and earthy, saturated with the sounds of her vast experience as a world citizen musician: rich jazz harmony and Brazilian rhythm, playful poetry and rock n’ roll persuasion, folky wisdom and refined craft. Jacqueline’s voice is warm and agile, her energy abundant and her music irresistible.

‘Effortlessly fluid vocals….’ Jessica Nicholas, The Age

Jacqueline performs and is a special guest singer/percussionist with a multitude of high calibre Australian and international ensembles, including the Jacqueline Gawler Band, Coco’s Lunch, Stoneflower, Christopher Hale’s Sylvan Coda, Panorama Brasil feat. Doug De Vries, The Picture Box Orchestra (UK/Pakistan/Australia), Sam Keevers’ América Do Sul, Bossa Negra (Brazil/Singapore/Australia), Silverbeat, Avatar, Red Fish Blue (Syd/Melb), the John Montesante Quintet & award-winning writer, musician & radio broadcaster Casey Bennetto.

Jacqueline is however most known for her work as a longstanding singer/composer/percussionist with multi award-winning vocal quintet Coco’s Lunch, with whom she has released 8 acclaimed albums and toured throughout 12 countries for the past 20 years.

Jacqueline is passionate about teaching people to find their authentic sound and connection to singing. She specialises in Jazz, Improvisation and Brazilian repertoire (in particular bossa nova) and coaches students in Portuguese pronunciation. As a teacher of Pop Voice at Monash University, she also works with students in a wide spectrum of contemporary genres (pop/rock/soul/music theatre etc) to implement healthy vocal techniques in order to facilitate a clean efficient sound, avoid injury, increase production, improve pitch and clarity, and navigate different sounds and vocal recipes. Having trained as a classical pianist through her childhood and with a multi-instrumental background, Jacqueline can also assist with song writing, theory, piano skills, performance techniques and performance psychology. Her vocal compositions for multi award-winning quintet Coco’s Lunch are performed by choirs and professional vocal groups worldwide, and Jacqueline is pleased to offer techniques for vocal composition as part of her lessons/masterclasses.

Jacqueline is a Teaching Associate in Jazz & Popular Studies at Monash University, and has tutored and assessed at many secondary and tertiary institutions around Melbourne including Victorian College of the Arts, Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, Melbourne Polytechnic and RMIT, as well as privately by appointment.
