Monica Spassaro

  • Bachelor of Music

With 17 years performance experience, Monica’s love for music began at the early age of 8 when she began playing the clarinet. As much as she enjoyed her association with the classical side of the musical world, Monica felt her true calling was the drums, realising her natural affiliation with the instrument after a class assessment. From here the passion grew and subsequently introduced her to the musical styles she loves to play today such as funk, soul, fusion, rock and pop.

Monica completed her Bachelor of Music in 2012 at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney, and it was here her teaching career began. With 6 years teaching experience under her belt she has had the pleasure of working for the likes of Allan’s and Billy Hyde, Northern Beaches Drum School, and now for the past 2 years at both Treble Makers Music and now at renamed Jam Studio Music.

Relocating to Melbourne in 2014 with an extremely valuable insight into the gigging world, Monica began playing with her current band Stonefox. Receiving airtime on the likes of Triple J, high rotation on Triple J Unearthered, FBI Radio and Triple M to name just a few, the band has exceeded a Spotify count of over 1 million collective plays, and successful Australian tours to back them, Stonefox can be seen playing around Melbourne’s most prominent venues.

Monica prides herself on her effective and efficient tutoring skills that cover a range of rhythmical elements including sight reading, time keeping, technique development, and most importantly performance and developing that crucial groove and feel!
