James is widely regarded as one of Australia's most exciting pianists and keyboard players. With an upbringing in classical piano that has led to a career touring nationally and abroad playing Funk, Pop, Disco, RnB, Hip-Hop and more to audiences far and wide, it's clear that James' love of music knows very few limits. James is also a skilled producer, arranger and composer.
Graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts with a B.Mus(Hon) specialising in improvisation, James then went on to be a finalist in the prestigious National Jazz Awards. Since then, his performances have come to reflect the wild array of styles and musical cultures that have inspired him and continue to.
Whatever you are interested in, the goal is to help you get where you want to be. Style, exams, notation or by ear are all choices that I can work with but I'll also try to subtly push students towards things that I believe will help them grow and improve while still maintaining the joy of music making. I currently teach out of my home studio with a beautiful kawai RX2 and lots of other tasty synth goodies. There is also the option to record with high end audio gear should the lesson go down that direction.
