ABOUT

His international achievements include reaching the quarter-finals of the 16th International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna in 2021 - one of 231 candidates - and becoming a finalist in the 6th Piano Island International Piano Competition in Singapore in 2024.
James has presented solo recitals at the Government House Ballroom in Perth and the Esplanade Recital Studio in Singapore, appeared as a concerto soloist with the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra, and toured 20 cities across China in 2019 as principal pianist and répétiteur for Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro.
TEACHING
James has taught piano since 2014, guiding students from their first lessons through to advanced and tertiary-level study. Calm, patient and understanding, he creates a supportive environment in which students can develop confidence and progress at their own pace.
Lessons are carefully tailored to each student’s age, personality, learning style and musical goals, with an emphasis on strong technical foundations, musical understanding, expressive playing and effective practice.
LESSONS
James provides a specialist in-home teaching service across selected areas of metropolitan Perth. Students benefit from focused, individual tuition in a familiar environment while learning on the instrument used for their daily practice.
