I’m a touring musician and I currently play in a band called "The Delta Riggs". I'm accepting students from beginner to intermediate levels who have a genuine interest in learning guitar, or who might not be sure, but want to explore whether or not it is for them. Whether you are a hobbyist, or want to start a band yourself, or just work on some riffs and have fun, we can pinpoint your goals and develop your skill. I also encourage everyone to bring in riffs or stuff of their own to work on and to feel like its an open creative time where there is no judgement.
I prefer an intuitive and DIY approach to learning guitar and don't focus excessively on theory, although we might need to touch on it occasionally. This is how I mostly learnt myself and I think this way enables you to develop a more genuine passion and unique style of playing without intellectualizing over it too much. Guitar is all about using your ears, refining your own taste, knowing what you like, and keeping it inspired and fun. It's the best way to get good (as long as you practice!).
I’ve been playing in bands for around 10 years, and have toured over the years with bands like The Foo Fighters, Kasabian, Eagles of Death Metal and Primal Scream doing big arenas and stadiums to tens of thousands of people. We've done multiple tours overseas in the USA and Europe, and played main stages of big festivals like Splendour in the Grass etc. So if you have an interest in playing live or recording your own work I can give you a lot of side tips based on my own experience. For what it’s worth I’m also a music school graduate with a degree in Popular Music.
I’ll be best at introducing you to, and developing your techniques relating to the styles of music listed above as these are my personal interests, but I can also show you principles that apply to all genres and basic concepts that are relevant to all instruments and music in general.
I teach from home and almost always play electric guitar. I think electric is best to learn on but not essential. I have amps, equipment and many guitars which you are free to make use of while here in order to experiment with different sounds and styles for yourself, but ultimately you will of course need your own guitar at the very least so that you are able to practice in your own time and develop your ability properly.
