Josef Hanna

Hello!

My name is Josef, and I am a professional violinist and violist based in Melbourne.

With over 20 years of experience performing and teaching I’ve had the privilege of performing regularly with major Australian orchestras such as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Opera Australia Orchestra, and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. I am also a member of the Affinity Quartet, a group that has taken me to stages across the world, with performances at prestigious festivals such as the Rheingau Musik Festival (Germany), Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival (Finland), and the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. My previous quartet, Elvina, also performed extensively in Europe and Australia, studying with leading pedagogues in Munich and Berlin.

Alongside performing, I’m passionate about teaching students of all ages and levels, both privately and in schools. I create a fun, supportive, and engaging learning environment where students feel inspired to develop their skills and explore their musical potential. I teach both the AMEB syllabus for students wishing to sit exams, and the Suzuki method, which offers a more holistic approach, depending on what best suits each student’s goals. While my focus is on classical training, I also enjoy helping students explore contemporary styles.

I hold a Bachelor of Music, a Master of Music Performance from the University of Sydney, and completed three years of intensive study at the Australian National Academy of Music. I’ve been fortunate to learn from some of Australia’s leading teachers, including Robin Wilson, Alice Waten, and Sophie Rowell, and I love passing on this knowledge to the next generation.

If you’re interested in lessons or have any questions, I’d love to hear from you!

Josef
