My name is Josh Kelly and I'm a professional musician and teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching musicians from primary-age through to university level and beyond.
I'm an award-winning performer - mainly a saxophonist - and composer. You might have seen me play at one of Melbourne's jazz clubs or band rooms, or heard my music on PBS or RRR FM if you're a music fan.
I play and write music for 30/70, JK Group, and Josh Kelly Trio; and my most recent album (The Young Ones) was nominated for the Music Victoria Awards Best Jazz Album 2020.
I'm a super passionate teacher as well and I love working out how to communicate music concepts in a way that is tailored to each individual student. Seeing students become animated by breaking through a new musical challenge or concept is a joy.
I accept applicants from students of all levels for private lessons conducted over Zoom or in my studio. You are asked to complete a form detailing your goals and desires prior to the first lesson, and it is my aim to offer creative and pragmatic solutions to finding your musical voice and achieving these goals.
Lessons are highly tailored to the individual whilst striking a balance of measurable, technical skill development alongside the spiritual and intangible dimensions of musicality.
I hold a valid Working With Children's Check, Public Liability Insurance, and Anaphylaxis Training.
