I'm an active composer, performer and concert organiser based in Perth. I play alto saxophone, drum kit, and electronic instruments.
I love to teach music as a living, creative art form. Students may learn to read, play, compose and improvise, learning technical and artistic skills in tandem.
Would love to hear from you!
Below is some information about my experience and background as a musician and teacher:
Alongside my composition degree, I have undertaken intensive study periods with leading contemporary composers including Michael Pisaro and Francisco Lopez, and taken workshops on creative music-making everywhere from the Tasmanian highlands to the Limpopo Valley in South Africa. My studies have led me to engage with everything from Korean p'ansori singing and Yolngu manikay to field recording and orchestral composition.
I have given seminars at the Australian National University, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Monash University, La Salle College of the Arts (Singapore), SEGi University (Kuala Lumpur), Universiti Teknologi MARAH Shah Alam (Kuala Lumpur), and I teach sessionally at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
I have extensive experience touring as an experimental musician and have played at festivals and concert series' in every continent except South America, including Supersense Festival of the Ecstatic, the Fremantle Biennale and the Totally Huge New Music Festival. I nurture ongoing collaborations with musicians in Berlin, Sydney, Melbourne and Malaysia. I also curate a festival (Audible Edge), a record label (Tone List) and an improvisation workshop (Sounding Together) in Perth.
