JUN ZHANG , born in China, holds a Bachelor Degree in Music Education from HeNan University, China, a Master of Music and a Post Graduate Diploma in Arts Management from the West Australian Conservatorium.
He was contracted to the Chinese National Opera Company in BeiJing from 2002 to 2005 before leaving China to join The Australian Opera Studio as principal tenor for two years where his roles included Hoffmann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach), Des Grieux in Manon (Massenet), Tamino in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Contino Belfiore in La Finta Giardiniera (Mozart) , Tancredi in Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda (Monteverdi) and Herisson in L’Etoile (Chabrier) among others. During this time he was awarded the prestigious Evelyn and Ralph Thompson Memorial Scholarship for excellence in performance.
In 2010 Jun Zhang joined the West Australian Opera Company where his performances included Carmen, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci , La Sonnumbula, Elektra, Madama Butterfly, also performed the role of Borsa in Rigoletto, Giuseppe in La Traviata(2012) and Gastone in La Traviata(2019). Jun Zhang has performed in numerous other productions including Ké-ki-ka-ko in BA-TA-CLAN (Offenbach) for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation; Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio for the West Australian Ballet among many other recitals and concerts. L’Aumonier in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Alfredo in La Traviata (Verdi), Prince Sou-Choung in The Land of Smiles (Lehar), Harlekin in Der Kaiser von Atlantis (Ullmann) for Lost and Found, Rodolfo in La Bohème (Puccini), Beppe in I Pagliacci (Leoncavallo), the Prince in Rusalka (Dvořák) and Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca (Puccini) for Freeze Frame Opera and Perth Festival 2021, Dick Johnson in La Fanciulla del West(Puccini) for Freeze Frame Opera 2022.
In December 2019, He made his debut with Darwin Symphony Orchestra as a soloist in Carmina Burana. In October 2020, he has appeared as tenor soloist in Beethoven No.9 at Perth Concert Hall.
