Katie Visser is a singer-songwriter/performance artist based in Melbourne. Originally, she studied acting and directing, but it wasn't until 2008 after seeing a live performance of "Wicked the Musical" that she realised that no longer should she reduce her singing in the comfort of her own car or shower but see where it could lead to, so she started taking singing lessons. Later that year, she wrote her first song "Stay with me" and the rest soon followed.
In 2011, she released her first experimental EP "Simulacrum" under the Pseudonym "Sisterfreak" that was a mixture of industrial, electronica and rock, however she realised she wanted to get more into the rock side of music and form her own band. In 2013, she released her first single on itunes "Dangerous" and in 2014, she formed the band "Rogue Element" with Tom Czako and Chris Bednarski on guitar, Monique Kenny on Bass and Katie’s husband, Nathaniel, on Drums.
In 2017, Rogue Element disbanded, and Katie formed the acoustic trio "Katie Visser and the Peripheral Figures" alongside Monique on guitar and Nathaniel on percussion and they are currently performing around the Melbourne circuit . They not only perform originals but also covers ranging from Heart, Pink, Kings of Leon, Amy Winehouse and a mixture of artists, both young and old.
In 2017, Katie also debuted her first one woman cabaret show "Katie's 80s" and in 2018, she performed her 2nd Cabaret “It’s not easy being green - a day in the life of an average vegan” which received raved reviews and she is currently working on future cabaret projects.
She was also a member of RnB Gospel group "Urban Praise" bringing to Melbourne the best of the best of Christian Southern Gospel and in 2022, Katie became a vocalist for the sassy vocal trio "The Treblettes" who cover a range of songs from the 40s, 50s and 60s while also paying homage to Motown and the Andrew Sisters.
Never one to not work on her craft, Katie still receives vocal tuition and is currently a student of Andrea Marr, one of Australia's biggest Blues sensations and she performs regularly for her end of year showcases and other promotional events. She is also an associate teacher of the Andrea Marr singing school and is currently offering lessons to beginners who want to sing and has been a student of Andrea's since 2010.
Katie has also written a musical.
