Christopher Healey one of Australia’s most exciting young and emerging composers of art music, currently with over eighty works to his name. He completed his Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservato- rium Griffith University under the tutelage of Gerard Brophy, receiving the Alan Lane and A.G. Francis prizes for his compositions. In 2011, Chris attended the International Youth Leadership Fo- rum in Prague as a delegate for Griffith University’s ‘Honours College’.
Chris continued his studies in 2013 at the University of Queensland, where he completed his Hon- ours Year with Dr. Robert Davidson and was award First Class Honours and the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence. He has since been accepted into the University of Queensland’s PhD Program in Music Composition, receiving an Australian Postgraduate Award for the duration of his studies. His extensive writings on the various philosophical aspects of composing will be released in Q4, 2018, and as of February, 2018, he will be additionally undertaking studies with American composer, Daron Hagen.

Despite being a young composer, Chris has been commissioned by The Brisbane City Council (for its Street Reads Project), Camerata of St John’s, The Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra, by Saxophonist Emma Di Marco, twice by renowned Australian-American conductor Dobbs Franks. He has also been invited to write works for The Sounding Out Composer’s Collective, Ensemble Fabrique, Bricolage Percussion Duo, ANAM Percussion Department, and the Qu many others.
Chris’ music has been performed throughout Australia as well as in Paris and Holland, where his Sonata for Saxophone and Piano was premiered live on Holland’s Radio National service. Chris’ work Matrix for Ensemble Fabrique was also recorded and Broadcast by the ABC, and his Overture to Macbeth was recorded by the 3MBS for their Shakespeare Marathon.
Aside from composing, in 2011/2012, Chris created the Dare CD Project, which raised several thousand dollars via Pozible to create a CD of music by emerging Brisbane composers and in 2013, Chris spent six months as an intern with the Sydney-Based arts company, Chronology Arts.

Musically, Chris’s works are hard to pin down, as he has a pragmatic and expressionistic approach to writing, which can evoke a wide variety of atmospheres. His musical influences include early 20th century composers like Stravinsky, Debussy and Ravel, later composers such as Ligeti, Bartok and Takemitsu and living composers like Carl Vine, George Crumb, Gerard Brophy, Brian Howard, Lowell Liebermann, Michael Gandolfi and many others.
