The Laura Bernay Studio for Voice offers singing lessons for teenagers to adults and for 8-12 year olds.
Laura has 30 years of professional performance and teaching experience. She is a graduate of the Victorian College of Arts in Performance and Melbourne University where she obtained a Graduate Diploma in Education. She is a trained flautist as well and plays piano.
She is a sessional lecturer in Voice for the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
The type of song repertoire covered in her studio ranges from folk songs, classical art songs, musical theatre, contemporary and jazz depending on the voice and age of the singer. Her background as a professional singer and musician is very eclectic and she has many years experience performing in these varied styles. Laura is able to demonstrate the different styles because she has performed them and is a consummate artist with many years of experience on stage. This naturally is an asset to her teaching and a benefit to her students. What better way than to learn from one who can do!
Laura offers private one on one instruction. Whether your goals are preparation for a possible career in music, auditions to major institutions, (WAAPA, UWA, VCA and all other major institutions in Australia etc) preparing for high school exams (ATAR), music scholarships, AMEB, eisteddfods etc. or simply personal enrichment, learning to sing with ease and agility is a multi-faceted activity that develops not only your instrument, but also helps develop your self-esteem. It is good for the whole being and encourages self-expression, discipline, and personal awareness. It is of vital importance that one finds and appreciates his or her own style and uniqueness, for every talent is as precious.
In Laura's studio you will gain experience in performing when you are ready. You will benefit from her love of and expert skills in languages. She is fluent in French and has gained an intermediate level of competency in Spanish since 2017. She teaches repertoire
to a high level in Italian, German, French and Spanish.
Lessons are conducted in a beautiful peaceful environment in the centrally located suburb of Shenton Park right on the Perth-Fremantle train line and well-serviced by bus. Parking is not a problem.
