Composition lessons are available for all ages and skill levels.
Lisa Cheney's Music Studio provides private one-on-one lessons for 45 or 60 minutes, usually on a weekly basis.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Composition from the QLD Conservatorium of Music, a Queensland Government Blue Card, is a represented composer of the Australian Music Centre and has been a professional member of the MTAQ Music Teachers' Association Queensland. She is currently completing her PhD in Composition and tutors at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in the courses Music Language 1 and Composition Studies.
LISA CHENEY is a contemporary classical composer and pianist based in Melbourne, Australia. Cheney holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Composition from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University where she was awarded the 2014 Silver Harris and Jeff Peck Prize for Composition. She is currently undertaking her PhD in Music Composition at the University of Melbourne, MCM. In addition to her studies Lisa teaches piano, composition and music theory to a select number of students, with an emphasis on developing creativity and a passion for all genres of music.
As a composer, Cheney writes music for a variety of mediums including orchestra, chamber ensembles, choirs, ballet, theatre, film and animations. Lisa is the recipient of many accolades has participated in the Atlantic Music Festival, Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp, Brevard Music Centre Institute Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Cybec 21ST Century Composers’ Program and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’s Composers’ Schools. Her music has been performed by many ensembles including The Southern Cross Soloists, The Australian Voices, The Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Plexus, The Sydney Antiphony, The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and The Australian Ballet amongst others.
As part of her Master of Music research, Lisa has written papers exploring the experiences of other early-career female composers in Australia. She currently runs the facebook group ‘Women in Composition’ and the twitter channel ‘Women Composers’ designed to support and promote the work of her female colleagues worldwide. In addition to her composing schedule, Cheney enjoys supporting the careers of other emerging composers and artists as the Co-Director and Co-Curator of an exciting new project releasing month playlists of contemporary Australia music called ‘Making Waves’. In 2015-2016 she will have works performed by The Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, The Sydney Antiphony, Plexus Collective, St Stephen’s College, Matthew Horsley at the Ballarat Festival of Slow Music and will attend the 2015 Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Composers’ School and the 2016 New Music Workshop at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.
