I'm an advanced composition student currently writing works for a variety of classical musicians. Recently, I have conducted a concert of four of my works for large ensembles.
For beginners, I start with applying music theory to particular works so that the student fully understands the elements that composers use to write their music. Students then apply these techniques into their own works. Every student chooses the style that they would prefer to write in and suitable works to study are chosen to suit their preference. I particularly like working on harmony and orchestration as I feel that these two aspects of composition are very important in creating quality artworks.
Students also have the choice of working on paper or working on a laptop. Those who work on a laptop will also receive tutoring on using the Sibelius software quickly and efficiently.
