Lucy Macourt

Hailing from Sydney, violinist Lucy Macourt completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying with Associate Professor, Dr. Goetz Richter. During her studies, she was awarded the Matteson and Nancy Scholarship, the Kathleen and Allison Short Scholarship and a Sydney Scholars Award. Prior to her tertiary studies, Lucy was enrolled in the Conservatorium’s Rising Stars program, studying with Dr. Evgeny Sorkin.
Lucy has performed in masterclasses for Andrea Gajic (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and Charles Stegeman (Concertmaster of Pittsburgh Opera Ballet Theatre), completed an internship with the Opera Australia Orchestra, performed alongside members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship, and worked with the Regional Youth Orchestra through the Richard Pulley Outreach and Regional Engagement Program. This included workshops with members of the Staatskapelle Berlin and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Lucy has also been a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra and National Music Camp, receiving the Eric and Elizabeth Gross Foundation Scholarship to attend.
In addition to teaching violin and viola, Lucy has conducted and tutored string ensembles in a wide range of primary and secondary schools across Sydney, whilst maintaining a successful private teaching practice where she also ran group theory sessions and tutored chamber music groups.
This year sees Lucy join the Canberra Symphony Orchestra’s Kingsland Artistic Residency Program, where she’ll perform with the orchestra in their 2020/21 season. In addition to her performance engagements, Lucy will continue her teaching at Canberra Grammar School, the ACT Academy of Music, and her own private teaching studio. Lucy also conducts the Sinfonietta ensemble that is part of the Music for Canberra String Stream program.
