Lydia Tan

Lydia is a skilled and personable violin teacher, having learned under the tutelage of Fintan Murphy from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. She believes music should be accessible to and enjoyed by all, and is driven to help keen musicians develop a love for playing the violin.

Lydia works personally with students to determine their personal goals, interests, and preferred learning styles. Lydia draws on various curriculum materials and develops her own, depending on the student's needs, to hone their reading, aural, and technical skills. Lydia also strives to train students to think critically in their learning, as she believes that critical thinking is crucial in a student's development on the instrument. Musical theory and general knowledge are embedded within instrumental lessons, with the option of going into more depth through separate theory lessons, especially when preparing for exams.

Lydia also believes that parents/guardians play a vital role in a child's development and strongly encourages them to assist in their child's learning and instrumental practice.

Lessons are primarily offered one-to-one in person or online, though group lessons (up to 2 students) are available if a student would like to learn with a friend or sibling.
