Mahalia Shelton

I am currently completing my Bachelor of Music Performance at the University of Melbourne’s Conservatorium of Music. I am a keen orchestral player, having played extensively with Australian Youth Orchestra, the Conservatorium of Music Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Youth Orchestra, often performing as Principal Cellist. In 2024 I was awarded Pass with Distinction for my AMEB LMusA exam. I have competed in many music competitions, being awarded first place for Music Society Victoria’s Chamber Competition and Victorian College of the Arts Chamber Competition in 2024. I was also a finalist in the Melbourne Bach Competition in 2023 and featured in an episode of 3MBS Melbourne Radio’s ‘The Talent’ in 2024. Music to me is a beautiful outlet for personal expression and a way to create meaningful connections with people. I believe everyone should experience this art form in their life. With my students I tailor my lessons to their interests whilst establishing good technique and musicianship. I have a wealth of audition, competition and exam experience to help students prepare for such things should this be something they aspire to.
