Margaret Francis is a classical singer and music teacher based in Fitzroy North, Melbourne.
Originating from Brisbane, Margaret holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Vocal Performance from University of Queensland and an Honours Degree in Opera Performance from Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Through her studies, Margaret had the opportunity to perform as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah for St John’s Cathedral (Brisbane) as well as tour children’s opera Sid The Serpent Who Wanted to Sing to regional Queensland.
Specialising in vocal, piano, flute and music theory tuition, Margaret has extensive experience teaching students of any age in many different genres across her various instruments. Over her 10+ years of teaching, Margaret has had the privilege of taking many students through various levels of AMEB exams in piano, voice and flute. Having studied vocal pedagogy under Emma Kate Wilson, Margaret has been keenly expanding her vocal specialisations to encompass opera/classical voice, musical theatre, jazz and popular/contemporary styles.
An active performer, Margaret held the position of Alto Choral Scholar for Christ Church South Yarra Cathedral under the direction of Michael Fulcher from 2022-2024. Margaret also regularly performs with premier chamber choir Polyphonic Voices, most recently at the inaugural Adelaide Chamber Choir Festival in October, 2023.
Previous performance credits include backing vocals for greats such as John Farnham, Josh Groban and Kate Ceberano along with choral performances with Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Pops Orchestra.
Margaret is constantly on the hunt to learn new things annd has an immense passion for the importance of music education and its transformative power to everyone's lives. She is constantly excited to be sharing her ever-expanding knowledge of music with the world.
