Described as a "consummate professional", I believe in teaching for excellence but in a creative manner which develops learning with understanding. Due to the safety of all students (covid-19), lessons have moved online. Lessons are still live, one-on-one, individually tailored to each student, and as effective as in-person lessons. Why not use this time of working/learning/staying at home to increase your piano practice and take your piano skills to a new level? When it is safe to do so, my students will resume in-person lessons or continue online if they prefer.

I have a current WWCC and am experienced with teaching both children and adults. I have specialist performance practice expertise and experience which is essential at all levels (especially for intermediate, advanced, diploma level and tertiary level students). I've also had excellent results teaching students presenting with performance anxiety. My curriculum (whether for exams, diplomas, tertiary study, PD or own betterment) is based on excellent performance practice standards. It develops quality skills, creativity, effective practice strategies and a growing sense of independent learning and learning with understanding (where relevant). This ensures superior student achievements not only for all forms of external assessment (eligible students demonstrate competition wins, fine HSC and exam results) but as musical skills which will be retained for life in a healthy manner.
My musical pedigree can be traced to world-renowned music conservatories, and a long list of distinguished concert artists/professors from Europe and the U.S.A. Furthermore, as a performance practice specialist, I specialise in the Russian School, the golden age of pianism and its concert-virtuoso tradition.
I hold Bachelor and Master’s degrees in performance from the K. Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice (the alma mater of Krystian Zimerman) and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I also have teaching qualifications (for teaching instrumental music in primary and secondary music schools), wide education experience and pedagogical knowledge. I’ve taught advanced piano in selective music schools for gifted children in Europe, maintained a piano studio in Australia, taught voice and acted as a music director/répétiteur for many years, completed a postgraduate ‘Principles of Studio Pedagogy’ unit at the Sydney Conservatorium and have experience as a piano adjudicator/examiner within NSW and ACT (at all levels i.e. from P Plate piano to 8th grade AMEB as well as Certificate of Performance). I have taught piano at the Conservatorium Open Academy, am a member of the Accompanists’ Guild of NSW and have maintained membership of the Music Teachers’ Association of NSW for some years.
My more than ten years of instrumental pedagogy experience (all as a tertiary degree qualified performer and teacher), professional industry experience and strong performance background ensures that I teach students excellent performance skills in an organised, reliable and enthusiastic manner. Described as a "consummate professional", I already have 16 years of performance experience as a concert pianist at elite levels, and almost 26 years experience with the piano. I’m experienced with exam syllabuses such as AMEB, ABRSM, Trinity College London. I have given guest lectures at the tertiary level and lecture/recitals within my fields of expertise. I am familiar with the classroom music curriculum (particularly HSC Music 2/Extension and its performance component). During my own high school years in Australia, I was a music scholarship student at a selective music school (for piano, voice, violin, pipe organ, composition) contributing to school life through many selective ensemble, solo performance and accompaniment commitments.
I am committed to musical excellence and believe in truly helping each student attain his/her full potential in a creative way, whether this results in exam preparation, competitions or simply appreciating the joy that music brings. My teaching philosophy focuses on an individual approach to each student, fostering musicality, a love of repertoire and interpretive insight through every step of the learning process. I also teach students to value the highest level of technique (which is not only about proficiency but also encompasses tone production, phrasing, stylistic refinement and musicianship), musical understanding and performance temperament. As a performance specialist, I develop performance skills by helping students become more confident performers (whether this means overcoming performance anxiety or finding their own unique voice). I also offer one-on-one piano professional development for musicians, piano, voice and instrumental teachers.
For online lessons: you can be located anywhere. Once it's safe to resume: home lessons are in the St George, and Sutherland Shire areas. Studio location is near Hurstville/Lugarno. For students outside this area I also teach at the Sydney Conservatorium Open Academy and sessionally/on a consultation basis in the Melbourne area. I welcome students based on merit and/or who are eager to learn as part of my studio. Exam, diploma, audition, competition preparation may be offered for suitable long-term students.
