Hi, I'm Mark Hughes, a guitar teacher with over 25 years' performing experience.
After completing a Certificate in Music Performance at Box Hill Institute, I've since gone on to play at most major live music venues in Melbourne as well at the Frankston Guitar Festival, and I have also had notable supports for artists such as Mark Seymour, Ross Wilson and Daryl Braithwaite along the way.
In 2003 I staged a sold-out album launch at the then newly-renovated jazz/funk venue Manchester Lane in Flinders Lane, and I've since been fortunate enough to work with some of Australia's top musicians including members of Australian jazz icon Vince Jones' band.
Around the same time I also had several of my original songs featured on Network 10.
You can find out more about my current original project: Mark Hughes and the Whole Wide World, here:

I offer lessons covering a wide variety of styles and techniques from the beginner level through to intermediate players of all ages. I specialise in pop, rock, blues and funk.
I have a wealth of practical experience gained through my many years as a gigging musician both in bands and as a solo performer, as well as much knowledge of music theory gained via formal study and writing, arranging and producing both my own and others’ original music in the recording studio.
I enjoy teaching beginners the basics of guitar in an easy to understand way with an emphasis on enjoyment and personal achievement. For more advanced players I can offer insights into techniques and concepts such as soloing, improvising and rhythm playing.
I cover theory, ear training and technique as well as the practical aspects of playing and performing, such as: how to prepare for a gig, how to get the most out of your gear, how to play with other people and the psychology of performing successfully.
Above all I take great satisfaction in helping students develop their own innate musicality and get the most out of their instruments.
If you’ve ever thought you’d like to learn guitar or if you’ve been playing for years and would like to further your skills, please contact me to see how I can help you with your guitar playing.

We have found Mark to be an excellent guitar teacher! He is always on time, organised, kind and patient, really excellent with kids! Highly recommend! Thanks Mark!!
Guitar lessons with Mark are fun. He listens to me and adjusts his approach when I talk to him about how I like to learn. My technique and confidence have improved since learning with Mark!
I have known Mark for 30 years and have worked with him in countless musical situations. He is a highly accomplished guitarist, teacher, songwriter and producer and is one of the most innovative and dedicated musicians I have ever worked with. He is also patient, articulate and great company. I would recommend him unreservedly to anyone.
