Music theory and chordal creations for song writing etc are so much fun because it opens the door to write "your own stuff" and keep it recorded and maybe even create a song that's inspired. Creating your own music peices and songs is learning music from "the inside out" and give so much more insight into how great muisc is constructed and appreciation for the great masters of course who always teach us from their inspired works.
Capturing your own tune and putting it on paper is what it is all about. Otherwise they will fade away in your memory and lost.
Being able to write your own music is like having a butterfly net to catch that butterfly of melody and harmony.
