My focus is to make music approachable, achievable and rewarding. With this in mind, I strive to conduct lessons in an encouraging atmosphere where learning is synonymous with having fun. I've found that this approach has lead my students to experience technical proficiency, musical awareness and genuine enjoyment.
With 10 years of teaching experience, I continue to find joy and fulfilment in making music with my pupils. I teach students at schools, academies and privately; in individual, group and full band formations. I strongly believe in providing a personalised learning stream. Whether it's playing Baker Street, hot cross buns, jazz, AMEB or school material, I'm keen to jump in and make it happen!
The Contemporary course I offer is a comprehensive approach to understanding and performing modern music. This course sees an in depth look into the makeup of pop, jazz, funk, rock and blues genres (amongst others). Chord progressions, vocabulary, solo shaping and facility are studied along with a curriculum which covers transcription, transposition, ear training and general knowledge. This course is very popular and has yielded great results from school age students, university pupils, adults and professionals.
I hold a Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz Saxophone and I have a Positive Notice Blue Card. I perform more than 150 gigs professionally each year, as well as 30+ appointments in recording sessions, composing and producing (Ableton). Experience drawn from these real world applications have greatly shaped how lesson are conducted.
