I’m Melissa and I’ve been teaching violin for just over 8 years and playing for the past 20.
Teaching violin and music education is what I enjoy doing most, so if you are after a committed and patient violin teacher, you have definitely come to the right place.
My philosophy towards music education is a broad and inclusive one, as I believe learning an instrument should be an enjoyable experience, regardless of age or prior experience.
I specialize in violin beginners of a primary and early-childhood age and are equally comfortable with adult beginners or secondary school students. I have a broad approach to learning and teach from a range of method books including AMEB, Suzuki and A Flying Start For Strings just to name a few.
My teaching journey so far has lead me to study in Sydney and Perth and teach in Canberra as well as Perth, where I am currently based. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to teach hundreds of primary and secondary students both in school-based string programmes and ensembles, in addition to regular 1-on-1 private tuition.
As I believe the study of violin goes beyond the weekly lesson, I am proactive and encouraging in developing students in all aspects of the study of classical music. Many students choose to extend their solo and ensemble skills by performing in the annual AUSTA String Festival; joining an orchestra such as JWAYS/WAYS/WAYMA and sit AMEB exams.
