Micaela has extensive experience as a concert and orchestral musician. After attending the Sydney Conservatorium high school, she graduated from her Bachelor of Music with High Distinction in performance.
Micaela’s orchestral career spans 35 years through which she performed regularly with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the Victorian State Opera, and many professional productions in Australia and overseas. She took up a full-time position with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra in 1989.
Following her orchestral career, Micaela gained accreditation as a registered music therapist, completing her PhD at the University of Sydney. Her innovative research addressed the sociological foundations of Performance Dysfunction in music students and career musicians.
Micaela has produced five CDs of original compositions under the Moonmusic label, presented papers at Australian Music Therapist Assoc. conferences, and published for the international Journal of the Association for Music and Imagery. As an adjunct to performing and teaching, Micaela facilitates music based workshops/seminars for community and business interest groups, the health sector, schools, and in an educational format for students of music therapy.
Micaela’s involvement with music education spans 38 years within the private school system and music faculties of the University of NSW and the Northern Rivers College of Advanced Education. As an AMEB examiner, Micaela has expert knowledge of the syllabus and grade level requirements, and progression through AMEB examinations to licentiate level. She enjoys teaching all age groups – primary and secondary school students through to retirees in community band programs. Micaela’s fundamental philosophy in music education is that learning music should be an enjoyable addition to life.
