Drum Lessons

Hi, I'm a drummer and teacher with 11 years' experience teaching music privately, in schools and at the VCA. I'm currently teaching at a primary school and commencing my Masters in music performance teaching.

I graduated with a Bachelor in jazz drumming from the VCA in 2012, and undertook 3 months' advanced drumming study in France and Germany in 2014.

I have performed and toured locally, nationally and internationally in groups of various genres - jazz, rock, pop, funk, improvised music etc, and have been teaching in schools consistently since 2010. In 2019-2020 taught a class in improvisation at the VCA.

Whether you have no music experience and are looking to give drumming a try, or you're a gigging musician looking to improve something specific, my lessons could be for you. I only give as much real-time feedback and instruction as is required, and let you incorporate the material by trying it and listening to yourself play. Lesson plans and practice routines are tailored to your ability and schedule. All ages welcome.

If you'd like to do exams through AMEB, ANZCA, etc. that is also encouraged and can be arranged.

I also have some rudimentary skills on the organ and bass and can accompany you if you want to practice songs/grooves with another rhythm section instrument!

Other more advanced areas we can explore include sight reading, rudiments, jazz and four-way co-ordination, accents and dynamic control, polyrhythms, odd-time signatures and speed, relaxation and tone.
