Fiddle tune lessons

Hey there! My name is Monique, and I am a folk cellist, singer-songwriter and educator. I co-direct Tree Folk Music, running fiddle workshops and camps in the Brisbane area. I've toured internationally as a member of The Maes, and have worked as a session musician for artists including bluegrass fiddler Darol Anger and Scottish-style fiddler Hanneke Cassel. Having immersed myself in folk music scenes and fiddle camps overseas since 2016, I'm passionate about passing on the great tunes and techniques I've learnt. With the pandemic altering the landscape of the music industry, I'm excited for the opportunity to be able to offer lessons again!

I'm offering fiddle tune lessons in Bardon starting from mid-February 2022. Please note that I am a cellist and teach using my cello! Topics we can work on include:

• Learning folk tunes by ear (from Celtic, Americana and/or Scandinavian traditions)
• Accompaniment techniques
• Improvisation
• Chopping and other rhythmic techniques
• Singing and playing

My teaching style involves:

• Tailoring lessons to the individual

These lessons are geared towards:

• Beginner string players who want to learn using folk tunes rather than classical method books
• Any string players who want to supplement their classical training with alternative styles
• Tertiary string students who want to broaden their careers possibilities
• Professional players who want to explore non-classical styles
• Music teachers who want to pick up some fiddle tunes to pass on to their students
